REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE...RETHINK!

WASTER REDUCTION is an important element in conserving our natural resources and reducing pollution.  Waste reduction means consuming and throwing away less. It includes:

  • purchasing durable, long-lasting goods;
  • seeking products that use the least amount of packaging and are as free of pollutants as possible;

REUSE is great way to reduce the amount of waste that must be disposed.  According to the EPA, “Reusing products, when possible, is even better than recycling because the item does not need to be reprocessed before it can be used again.”

You can extend the life of items you no longer want by:

  • Repurposing items such as glass jars and plastic jugs for storage

  • Repairing items when feasible

  • Selling usable items at a garage sale, flea market or consignment sale

  • Donating usable items to a local charity, school or other community group.
