Environmental Education Outreach The District provides free environmental presentations to businesses, schools, churches and community groups. Please contact the District’s Public Education Coordinator, Serina Wilkins, for more information. Here are examples of available environmental education classroom presentations: Trash Detectives – Participants try to determine the lifestyle habits of various families by looking at their trash. Papermaking – Emphasizes recycling and reduction of waste. Teaches how individuals and societies can extend the value of resources and promote environmental quality. Vermicomposting – Students help construct a worm composting bin. Red wiggler worms convert organic waste into black sweet-smelling humus that can used as a nutrient rich soil conditioner. It is ideal for schools and offices. Environmental Education 101-General overview of environmental issues. Topics include water quality, recycling, composting, environmental awareness and stewardship, etc. Presentations can be customized to fit your organization’s needs
Resource Library
The
Benton County Solid Waste District has an environmental education resource
library available for loan at no charge to the public.
With more than 160 titles to choose from including adult and children’s
books, lesson plans and activities, directories and much more, there is sure to
be something of interest!
Examples of resources include materials from Project Learning Tree, Project Wet
and Wild and SEPUP Kits.
To check out materials from the Resource Library, please call the District office to make arrangements. A refundable deposit may be required when checking out some materials. Continuing Education/Training Opportunities The District hosts Teacher’s Workshops that provide free professional development credits.
