Benton County Solid Waste District

COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL RECYCLING

Why Should Your Facility Consider Recycling?

Bottom line…..Recycling can save your facility money!

Recycling as much waste material as possible will allow your facility to reduce the amount of waste that must be disposed of in a landfill, usually cutting the cost of waste disposal.  Often, facilities are able to reduce the frequency of pickups of waste containers such as dumpsters!

 Materials Commonly Recycled

  • Mixed Office Paper - All colors of computer/office paper, envelopes, junk mail, etc.

  • Newsprint

  • Corrugated cardboard - Shipping boxes, kraft paper, paper shopping bags, some food packages, egg cartons, etc.

  • Magazines/Catalogs -  Slick coated publications

  • Telephone Books - Outdated phone books or similar catalogs

  • Aluminum Cans - Cans from soft drinks, beer, etc.

  • No. 1 Plastic Bottles (PETE) - Soft drink & juice bottles, some shampoo bottles, etc.

Other Materials That You May Consider Recycling

  • Glass Bottles and Jars (All colors) - Food Jars, soft drink and alcoholic beverage bottles, etc.

  • Steel Cans (often called tin cans) - Vegetables, soup, juice, pet food, etc.

  • No.2 Natural Plastic Bottles (HDPE) - Opaque containers such as milk jugs

  • No. 2 Colored Plastic Bottles  (HDPE) - Colored jugs such as detergent, juice, etc.

  • Boxboard / chipboard (No “ripples”) - Packaging sheets and product inserts similar to cereal boxes

How Can Your Facility Get Started?

The District offers technical assistance to help your facility establish comprehensive recycling and waste reduction programs.  We can conduct a waste audit with you to review the types of waste that your facility produces and which of these materials may be recyclable.  We will be happy to arrange a convenient time to meet with you to discuss your needs and to conduct the audit.  After an audit has been completed, we will make suggestions to help you decrease the amount of waste you produce as well as suggestions for ways to recycle other materials.  Your facility will then be prepared to contract with a recycling collection company for pickup and recycling of your materials.  To schedule a waste audit, contact Assistant Director, Mike VanCleave at (479) 795-0751 or vancleavem@bcswd.com.

Commercial Recycling Options

Many local waste haulers also offer commercial and industrial recycling options.  Check with your local waste hauler to determine available services or contact the District for additional information at (479) 795-0751.
