If you do not want to hold your material, here are ideas for disposal of some common household materials: SELF PAY: Citizens may choose to pay for disposal themselves by contacting a hazardous waste disposal company. There are several companies that may provide collection in our area such as Stericycle and Safety Kleen. LATEX PAINT: Remove the top of the can and allow the paint to dry out or mix with sawdust or cat litter to solidify the paint before disposal in your regular household trash. Paint must be completely dry.
USED MOTOR OIL AND ANTIFREEZE: Auto parts stores in Northwest Arkansas (O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, Wal-Mart TLE) typically accept up to 5 gallons of each product at a time at no charge. Contact your local store for details.
HOUSEHOLD QUANTITIES OF BATTERIES: Battery sales locations, such as Battery Outfitters in Rogers, often accept these batteries at no charge. Contact your local store for details.
FLUORESCENT BULBS: Fluorescent bulb collection / shipping / disposal boxes can be purchased through several online stores including www.lamptracker.com. An online search will reveal other providers. The EPA website contains the following information for Consumers: |
||
COMMERCIAL HAZARDOUS WASTEFederal and state law prohibits hazardous waste (such as fluorescent bulbs, chemicals, used oil, paints, batteries, electronic waste, etc.) generated by a business, school, church, government agency or other entity from being disposed of through the Household Hazardous Waste program. To assist you with commercially generated hazardous waste handling, ADEQ has produced several brochures and guidance documents regarding proper handling of various hazardous waste items. You can find these at http://www.adeq.state.ar.us/poa/brochures/brochures.asp There are also many Hazardous Waste Disposal companies which are capable of handing commercially generated hazardous waste. To find companies that can provide disposal options, conduct a web search for Hazardous Waste Disposal companies. Please perform due diligence in determining if the company you choose manages their waste in an environmentally-friendly manner and that they are properly licensed for collection of your specific waste. |
